As of October 2026, we found no official India offering for Toast, Square, Clover, Lightspeed, NCR Aloha or Heartland, and QuickBooks Desktop POS has been discontinued. Oracle MICROS is used by hotels in India through partners. Global brands are built around US and European taxes and payments, so they lack GST bills, UPI, Indian delivery platforms and rupee pricing. Indian restaurants are better served by a POS built for India.

Why global POS brands don't fit Indian restaurants
Even where a global system could be set up in India, it would miss what Indian restaurants need every day:
| Need | What an Indian restaurant POS must handle |
|---|---|
| GST billing | Bills with GSTIN, CGST/SGST split, SAC code and FSSAI number; GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B reports. |
| UPI and Indian payments | UPI QR and sound boxes, Indian card machines, split payments in rupees. |
| Zomato, Swiggy and ONDC | Indian delivery platforms and their GST treatment under Section 9(5). |
| Indian service styles | Captain ordering, KOTs, running tables, tokens and weight-based billing for sweet shops. |
| Rupee pricing and local support | Subscriptions in rupees with GST invoices, and support in Indian hours and languages. |
| Hardware you can buy here | Standard Android tablets and thermal printers, rather than imported, payment-locked hardware. |
Many global POS brands also tie their hardware to their own payment processing. That model depends on card payments in their home markets; in India, where UPI dominates, it simply doesn't apply. For what a compliant bill looks like, see our GST restaurant bill format.
What global POS brands do well
There's a reason they're famous: polished interfaces, deep integration between POS, payments and payroll in their home markets, large app marketplaces and strong enterprise reporting. If you're an international brand opening in India, your head office may standardise on one; expect a local partner, custom tax setup and separate Indian payment integrations.
Oracle MICROS and large hotels
Oracle MICROS Simphony is widely used by hotel groups, and hotel-industry review data shows many properties using Oracle Hospitality in India. It suits large properties with many outlets and dedicated IT teams. For a single restaurant or a small chain, it's usually more system and cost than needed. See our hotel restaurant POS guide for what hotels should look for.
If someone offers a global POS in India
Ask these questions before signing:
- Is this an official, supported offering in India, or an unofficial setup?
- Does it print a GST-compliant bill with CGST/SGST, SAC code and FSSAI number?
- Does it support UPI and Indian card machines?
- Does it work with Zomato, Swiggy and ONDC?
- Who provides support, in which hours and languages?
- Is pricing in rupees with a GST invoice?

Frequently asked questions
Is Toast available in India?
We found no official Toast offering for India. Toast's help centre lists its markets outside the US as Canada, the UK, Ireland and Australia, and its POS is built around its own payment processing.
Can I use Square POS in India?
Square doesn't offer card processing in India; its developer documentation lists eight countries for card payments, and says that elsewhere only cash and external payments are available. It also doesn't support Indian GST bills or UPI.
Is Clover available in India?
We found no Clover POS offering in India. Fiserv, Clover's owner, provides card terminals in India through Fiserv-ICICI Merchant Services, but Clover's announced markets don't include India.
Is Oracle MICROS used in India?
Yes, mainly by hotels and large hospitality groups, usually through Oracle partners. It's an enterprise system, so it's rarely the right fit for an independent restaurant.
What should Indian restaurants use instead?
A restaurant POS built for India, with GST billing, UPI, KOTs and Indian delivery platforms. Compare options in our guide to the best restaurant POS software in India.
